Music
"Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us." - Martin Luther
“The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.” - Johann Sebastian Bach
Music has been a vital part of the Christian church since its foundation. From the psalms of King David to the chants found in medieval monasteries to newly-written hymns in the twenty-first century, music proves a timeless vessel through which we can "glorify God and enjoy Him forever."
Style: At Aliso Creek Church, we program blended music, using a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs to reflect the breadth of Christian music available to us. Our worship team generally consists of a small acoustic ensemble: piano, guitar, and light percussion are typical each Sunday. We often incorporate solo instruments like violin, flute, clarinet, and trumpet, especially during special services in the church calendar like Advent, Christmas Eve, and Easter. The main objective of the music each and every Sunday is to support the sermon text and encourage the congregation to reflect on important sermon themes throughout the week.
Children/youth opportunities: We love our covenant family at ACC and feel strongly about including our children and youth in our services. Our littlest ones form a children's choir twice a year to sing beautiful anthems during Advent and Palm Sunday. Our older youth sing in a special choir on Christmas Eve, and often support the children's choir with handbells or additional instruments. They also join the worship team quarterly and learn how to serve up front in that capacity.
Resources: We would encourage you to check out our Spotify channel! The service music is posted weekly and you can find additional playlists with collections for the Psalms, Lent, Easter, and Advent/Christmas.
Contact: If you are interested in becoming involved in ACC's music ministry, please contact our Director of Music and Worship Arts, Gretchen Kirby ( ). If you are interested in helping on the sound team (due to our shared worship space, we set up and tear down each Sunday and rely on our wonderful volunteers to run the sound board), you can contact Gretchen and our tech director, Nikole Pelot ( ).
